The 2025 Italian Grand Prix will take place Sept. 5-7, 2025, at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, one of Formula 1’s most iconic and technically challenging circuits. Located just 20 kilometers northeast of Milan, Monza is a historic venue known for its high-speed straights, demanding chicanes, and electric atmosphere. The Grand Prix is one of the largest events in the region and will significantly impact traffic and demand at Milan-area airports.

If you’re planning a mission to Milan for this event, expect increased general aviation (GA) activity beginning several days before the race and continuing a day or two afterward. Below is what you need to know when operating to the area.

The Race

Monza (Italy) circuit.

Race Schedule

  • Friday, Sept. 5: Practice

  • Saturday, Sept. 6: Qualifying

  • Sunday, Sept. 7: Race

Full race details will be available on the official F1 website.

VIP Experience

Monza’s proximity to Milan makes the city the base of operations for many F1 teams, fans, and sponsors. Expect heavy hotel demand, increased traffic in the city, and a busy social calendar that includes driver meet-and-greets, F1-themed exhibitions, and pop-up events throughout the weekend. Restaurants, bars, and public spaces will also be more crowded than usual.

Primary Airports to Consider

For business aviation flights to the Italian Grand Prix, the three main airports to consider are:

  • Milan Linate (LIML) – Closest to both Milan and Monza

  • Milan Malpensa (LIMC) – Largest international gateway

  • Orio al Serio (LIME) – Convenient access to Monza and Milan

You can read more in our Milan Business Aviation Destination Guide.

Milan-Linate (LIML)

  • Proximity: 10 km (10 min) from Milan; 20 km (~30 min) from Monza

  • Operating Hours: 24/7

  • Customs/Immigration: On-site

  • Slots/PPR: Not required; parking must be pre-booked

  • GA Facilities: Full GAT services, VIP/crew lounges, hangar and maintenance available

Linate is the most convenient airport for accessing both Milan and Monza. It is not a transit airport, so non-EU and extra-Schengen flights must undergo Police and Customs checks. A General Declaration is required for all international arrivals.

NOTAM Watch: Universal Aviation Italy is monitoring rumors of a potential NOTAM at LIML restricting GA arrivals during peak periods of the Grand Prix weekend. We will update this article if/when a NOTAM is issued.

Milan-Malpensa (LIMC)

  • Proximity: 45 km (~45 min) to Milan; 55 km (40–60 min) to Monza

  • Operating Hours: 24/7

  • Customs/Immigration: On-site at Terminal 2

  • Slots/PPR: Not required; parking must be pre-arranged

  • GA Facilities: GAT with VIP/crew lounges, hangars, and transport/maintenance services

CIQ processing is handled at the commercial terminal. Fast-track services can be arranged, and handlers typically escort passengers and crew to awaiting ground transport. Onboard clearance is reserved for diplomatic and medical flights only.

Orio al Serio International Airport (LIME)

Sunset over Bergamo Airport in Italy.

  • Proximity: 45–50 km (~45–60 min) to Milan; 30 km (~30–40 min) to Monza

  • Operating Hours: 24/7

  • Slots: Not required

  • PPR: Required

  • GA Facilities: GAT with parking and standard amenities

LIME is a major hub for low-cost carriers and may offer more flexibility in terms of parking and availability. It is frequently used by Grand Prix attendees seeking access to both Monza and Milan.

Hotel Availability

Hotels near Milan and the Monza circuit will be in high demand. Expect elevated prices, strict cancellation policies, and limited last-minute options. In some cases, crew accommodations may need to be arranged in cities over 1.5 hours away from Milan.

Ground Transport

Pre-booked car and driver service is strongly recommended. Parking at the track is extremely limited, and rental cars are not advised for crew movements. Helicopter transfers between airports and the track are possible, but demand is high—book early. Helicopter transfers are not available from city center locations.

Conclusion

If you’re planning to operate to Milan for the Italian Grand Prix, plan to arrive at least one to two days before the race and depart one to two days after to avoid peak congestion. Monitor for possible NOTAMs at LIML and book parking, accommodations, and transport as early as possible.
