Mobile World Congress 2026 will take place March 2–5 at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via. The event consistently draws more than 100,000 attendees and represents one of Spain’s highest-demand weeks for business aviation.

Traffic builds in the days leading up to opening and remains elevated through peak departure days at week’s end. Parking availability tightens early, and slot flexibility becomes limited as demand concentrates into a short operating window.

“MWC drives compressed GA demand into a short operating window,” said Gonzalo Barona Jr., General Manager, Universal Aviation Spain. “Parking fills early, slots tighten quickly, and flexibility for last-minute revisions is extremely limited.”

Primary Airport

Barcelona GAT

Barcelona (LEBL) is the primary airport serving the city, with Girona (LEGE) functioning as the preferred alternate when parking is unavailable.

LEBL operates 24 hours with no curfew for Stage 3 and above aircraft. Airline peak activity typically runs 0700–1400 local. Outside major events, GA flow is generally manageable. During MWC, however, ramp saturation and slot demand increase significantly, particularly during peak arrival and departure banks.

Our Barcelona Destination Guide has all the details on operating to Barcelona.

Slots, Parking, and PPR

Airport slots are required for all private non-revenue and charter operations into and out of LEBL.

PPR is not normally required but may be implemented during high-traffic periods.

Approximately 40 GA parking positions are available at LEBL. Extended parking during MWC should not be assumed. Once apron capacity is reached, drop-and-go operations with repositioning to alternates become common.

“Operators who wait to secure parking may find their options narrow quickly,” Barona added. “Flexibility is strongest early in the planning cycle.”

Late slot revisions become increasingly difficult as peak demand approaches, particularly on high-volume departure days.

Hotels, Transport, and Catering

Hotel demand rises sharply during MWC, with premium properties selling out well in advance. Crew accommodations should be secured early, as rates increase materially during event week.

Due to congestion and limited central parking, pre-arranged car-with-driver transport is recommended over rental vehicles.

Inflight catering is available 24 hours at LEBL. Specialty or high-end requests should be submitted at least 24 hours in advance during event week.

Operational Planning Considerations

  • Secure slots and parking as early as possible
  • Plan for potential drop-and-go with repositioning
  • Avoid late aircraft swaps or schedule revisions
  • Confirm crew accommodations and transport well in advance

Conclusion

MWC is operationally manageable with early coordination and realistic expectations. Operators who delay slot or parking requests should anticipate reduced flexibility, increased revision constraints, and potential repositioning requirements.
