Prior to this regulation, inspections were only performed at flight crew request.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-pre-wrap break-words\">Large luggage over a specific size (as determined by duty officers) continues to be inspected at these primary airports:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Narita International Airport (RJAA)<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Haneda Airport (RJTT)<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Kansai International Airport (RJBB)<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Chubu Centrair International Airport (RJGG)<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Kobe Airport (RJBE)<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Nagoya Airport (RJNA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"whitespace-pre-wrap break-words\"><em>2025 Update:<\/em> Experience has shown that customs officers at other Japanese airports may also conduct discretionary luggage inspections based on their assessment, though this occurs on an occasional basis.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"text-xl font-bold text-text-200 mt-1 -mb-0.5\">Domestic Operations Permits<\/h2>\n<p class=\"whitespace-pre-wrap break-words\">The following changes implemented in 2020 remain in effect:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"text-lg font-bold text-text-200 mt-1 -mb-1.5\">Schedule Changes and Permit Tolerance<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Prior to 2020: Permit changes were only allowed within -24 hours \/ +72 hours from approved ETA and ETD<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Current rule: Changes are allowed within -1 day \/ +3 days from approved operation dates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"text-lg font-bold text-text-200 mt-1 -mb-1.5\">Flight Route Flexibility<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Prior to 2020: Flight route for domestic operations needed to be followed exactly as approved<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Current rule: Flight routes are changeable as long as the operator uses approved airports. Example: A flight approved for [KIAH-RJTT-RJBB-RJTT-KIAH] can operate as [KIAH-RJBB-RJTT-KIAH] without permit revision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"text-lg font-bold text-text-200 mt-1 -mb-1.5\">Alternate Airports<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Prior to 2020: Setting alternate airports was not allowed<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Current rule: Setting alternate airports is now possible &#8220;within reason&#8221; (Note: JCAB has not specified the maximum number of alternate airports allowed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2020, Japan implemented mandatory luggage inspections for private jet passengers at six major airports.
