What is the Japan International Tourist Tax?<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Japan-international-tourist-tax.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japan International Tourist Tax<\/a> went into effect on Jan. 7, 2019. The tax was levied by the Japanese National Tax Agency Ministry of Finance as part of governmental efforts to provide a permanent source of funds to expand and enhance Japan&#8217;s tourist infrastructure in order to make Japan the top tourist destination.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Who must pay the Tourist Tax?<\/h2>\n<p>A Taxable Person is considered any passenger who departs for overseas from airports in Japan by aircraft or ship.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Who is exempt from the tax?<\/h2>\n<p>For business aviation purposes the following individuals are exempt from the tax:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Crew members<\/li>\n<li>Those leaving Japan by a special means (e.g. government aircraft)<\/li>\n<li>Those who have returned to Japan without entering another country after departure from Japan due to weather or under other unavoidable circumstances<\/li>\n<li>Transit passengers (leaving Japan within 24 hours of arrival)<\/li>\n<li>Children under the age of two<\/li>\n<li>Diplomats, consuls, and other eligible personnel stationed in Japan (for official purposes only)<\/li>\n<li>State guests and others with equivalent status<\/li>\n<li>US Armed Forces personnel and UN Armed Forces personnel (for official purposes only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For a full list of exemptions, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/JP-eAIC-2019-007-en-JP.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>4.
