Requirements vary by airspace, altitude, aircraft performance, and enforcement status. Operators must confirm applicability during flight planning and ensure equipment compliance prior to dispatch.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"639\"><strong data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"527\">Key takeaway:<\/strong> ADS-B compliance is now effectively global, with enforcement expanding by FIR, altitude, and aircraft category.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Australia<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all IFR operations at all flight levels over continental Australia, the Arafura Sea (bounded on the north by airway B598), the Great Australian Bight (bounded on the south by airway Q27\/L513), and the Bass Strait (bounded on the east by airway H20 and to the southwest by L513). More information can be found on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airservicesaustralia.com\/aip\/aip.asp\">AIP GEN 1.5<\/a><\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Canada<\/h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>All flights within Canadian Domestic Class A &amp; B airspace (essentially all domestic airspace at or above FL125) requires ADS-B. NavCanada will extend this to all Class C, D and E airspace, but this will occur no earlier than 2028.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Canada is different than other countries as there are two equipment requirements that need to be met.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>be equipped with an appropriate transponder with ADS-B Out capabilities that performs to the Minimum Operational Performance Standards of RTCA DO-260B, or newer; and<\/li>\r\n<li>have antenna capability for broadcast toward both ground-based as well as space-based ADS-B receivers. This requirement can be met either through antenna diversity (the use of a top and bottom antenna) or with a single antenna capable of transmitting both towards the ground and up towards satellites.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.navcanada.ca\/en\/aeronautical-information\/aip-canada.aspx\">AIP ENR 1.6.3<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>China<\/h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>The China AIP GEN 1.5, paragraph 2.5.1.1 states:\u00a0\u00a0<em>All aircraft flying within ADS-B control airspace shall be installed with ADS-B equipment complying with standards equivalent to or above ES Version 0<\/em>\u00a0(RTCA-260)\u00a0<em>as specified in ICAO Annex 10, Volume IV, Chapter 3 and ICAO Doc 9871.<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>As of 14JAN26 the \u201cADS-B control airspace\u201d is not defined in the China AIP.\u00a0 China authorities advise that ADS-B requirements are not being enforced.<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Colombia<\/h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all flights within Colombia airspace, at all flight levels. For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerocivil.gov.co\/normatividad\/\">RAC 4 4.2.2.6<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2>Curacao FIR<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>All flights at all altitudes require ADS-B.\u00a0\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dc-ansp.org\/eAIS\/eaip-dutch-caribbean\/\">AIP ENR 1.6, paragraph 1<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dc-ansp.org\/eAIS\/aic\/\">AIC 10\/19<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dc-ansp.org\/eAIS\/aic\/\">AIC 14\/23<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dc-ansp.org\/eAIS\/aic\/\">AIC 04\/24<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">El Salvador<\/h2>\r\n<p>All flights operating over the landmass of El Salvador will require ADS-B. For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cocesna.org\/aipca\/AIC_SUP\/aip_ca_pdf\/aic\/aic_aipca_24_a46_ms_es.pdf\">AIC 46\/24<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Europe<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is mandated for all aircraft. \u00a0Requirements apply only to instrument flight rule (IFR) flights and only for aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 5700 kg (12,566 lbs.) or greater and\/or max cruising true airspeed (TAS) greater than 250 knots (kts).<\/p>\r\n<p>Exemptions<\/p>\r\n<p>An aircraft will be exempt from the mandate if they meet one of these criteria.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Individual Certificate of Airworthiness first issued before June 7th, 1995,\u00a0<strong><u>OR<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li>Flight purpose is for maintenance or export,\u00a0<strong><u>OR<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>If an aircraft meets any of the exemptions above, enter EUADSBX into the Item 18 SUR\/ field of their FPL.<\/p>\r\n<p>For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A02011R1207-20220125\">(EU) No 1207\/2011<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32014R1028&amp;qid=1647978889876\">(EU) No 1028\/2014<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32017R0386&amp;qid=1647979008330\">(EU) 2017\/386<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32020R0587&amp;qid=1647979036833\">(EU) 2020\/587<\/a>, the latter 2 are amendments to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A02011R1207-20220125\">(EU) No 1207\/2011<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/dfu\/annex_to_ed_decision_2020-014-r.pdf\">EASA AMC<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ads-b-europe.eu\/\">ADS-B Europe<\/a><\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>French Polynesia \/ Tahiti (NTTT) FIR<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is mandated for all flights in the NTTT FIR.\u00a0 More information is located at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr\/\">AIP PAC P ENR 1.6.3<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Guatemala<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all operations above FL285. For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ais.gov.hk\/\">AIP GEN 1.5 and ENR 1.10<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Hong Kong<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all operations above FL285. For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ais.gov.hk\/\">AIP GEN 1.5 and ENR 1.10<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Iceland<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required within all BIRD FIR airspace for all aircraft (some exemptions do exist). For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/eaip.isavia.is\/\">AIP ENR 1.6<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>India<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>The current requirement is for aircraft to be ADS-B equipped to operate at or above FL285 on ATS routes in Indian continental airspace with designators L, M, N, P, Q, T and routes A201, A347, A465, A474, A791, B211, B466, G450, R457, R460, R461, W15, W19, W20, W29, W41, W43, W45, W47, W56S\/N, W67, W111, W112, W114, W115, W118, W153.\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aim-india.aai.aero\/\">AIP ENR 1.6<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Indonesia<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all flights within Jakarta (WIIF) and Ujung Pandang (WAAF) flight information regions (FIRs) at and above FL245. Below FL245 ADS-B is required in multiple TMA and CTR airspace as well as parts of Class D and E airspace.\u00a0 More information can be found at AIP ENR 1.6.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Malaysia<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for flights within the defined airspace of the WMFC FIR for all aircraft operating AoA FL290. See AIP ENR 1.1-26 for image.<\/p>\r\n<p>Defined Airspace<\/p>\r\n<p><em>The ADS-B Out surveillance services for ATS routes in Oceanic Airspace of Kuala Lumpur Flight Information Region (FIR) will involve the portion of airspace bounded by coordinates from 071500N 0983000E to 100000N 0963000E to 100000N 0942500E to 060000N 0942500E to 060000N 0973000E and thence along a straight line to point 071500N 0983000E. It encompasses the ATS routes of N571, P628, L510, P627, L645 and P574 from FL 290 or above<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>For more information:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aip.caam.gov.my\/aip\/eAIP\/history-en-MS.html\">ENR 1.1, paragraph 1.1.15<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Mexico<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is mandated for all IFR operations within Mexican controlled airspace.\u00a0 This does not apply to the Mazatlan Oceanic (MMFO) FIR.\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aipmexico.seneam.gob.mx\/AIP\/doc\/PRODUCTS\/AIC\/17_AIC_04_20_SERIE_A\/AIC_04_20_SERIE_A.pdf\">AIC 04\/20<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mongolia<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>All flights operating at and above FL290 (8840 meters) requires ADS-B.\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ais.mn\/files\/aip\/eAIP\/valid\/html\/index-en-MN.html\">AIP ENR 1.6<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Nandi (NFFF) FIR \/ Fiji Sector<\/h2>\r\n<p>All flights operating within the Fiji Domestic sector of the Nandi (NFFF) FIR requires ADS-B.\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/caaf.org.fj\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/AIC%2003-23%20ADS-B.pdf\">AIC 03\/23<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>New Caledonia \/ NFFF FIR<\/h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>All flights operating within the New Caledonia sector of the Nandi (NFFF) FIR requires ADS-B.\u00a0 For more information, see AIP PAC-N GEN 1.5.<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Zealand<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all flights within controlled airspace of the NZZC FIR.\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aip.net.nz\/\">AIP ENR 1.4, paragraph 3<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Saudi Arabia<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all flights operating in Saudi Arabia classes A (FL150 to FL460), E (FL115 to FL150) and B\/C\/D (airspace around major airports up to FL150).\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gaca.gov.sa\/web\/en-gb\/content\/laws-and-regulations\">GACAR 91.477 (b)(1)(vi)<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Seychelles<\/h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>The initial mandate that was supposed to go into effect on June 7th, 2020, has been delayed indefinitely per AIC 10\/20.\u00a0 Based on AIC 01\/19, the mandate that is to be applied sometime in the future is as follows: All flights within the Seychelles (FSSS) FIR require ADS-B. Some automatic exemptions are available such as; STATE aircraft, small aircraft, and others.\u00a0See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scaa.sc\/files\/AIC%2001-19%20(ADS-B-NRA%20).pdf\">AIC 01\/19<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scaa.sc\/files\/AIC%2010-2020%20ADS-B-NRA.pdf\">AIC 10\/20<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Singapore<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ADS-B is required for all operations at or above FL290 within the WSJC FIR.<\/p>\r\n<p>For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caas.gov.sg\/legislation-regulations\/guidelines-advisory\/air-navigation-services\/aeronautical-information-publication-amendments\">AIP ENR 1.6<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caas.gov.sg\/docs\/default-source\/pdf\/singapore-aic-2020-03---automatic-dependent-surveillance-broadcast-(ads-b)-out-exclusive-airspace-implementation-plan-within-singapore-fir.pdf\">AIC 03\/20<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caas.gov.sg\/legislation-regulations\/guidelines-advisory\/air-navigation-services\/aeronautical-information-publication-amendments\">AIP SUP 159\/25<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>South Africa<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>All aircraft operating in Class A and in designated Class C airspace require ADS-B.\u00a0 Sometime after 2027 sections of Class C (FL145-195) airspace will be phased in. For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/caasanwebsitestorage.blob.core.windows.net\/aeronautical-information-circular\/010-2024.pdf\">AIC 10\/24<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sri Lanka<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ADS-B is required within a prescribed area (See AIP SUP 02\/20 for more details).<\/p>\r\n<p>Aircraft manufactured before 01-JAN-2020 must have ADS-B (Out) 1090 MHz applicable to RTCA DO-260, DO-260A, or DO-260B.\u00a0 Aircraft manufactured on or after 01-JAN-2020 and has an MTOW exceeding 12,566 lbs (5,700 kgs) or having a maximum cruising true airspeed (TAS) greater than 250 knots must have ADS-B (Out) 1090 MHz applicable to RTCA DO-260B.<\/p>\r\n<p>For more information, see \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aim-sg.caas.gov.sg\/eaip.html\">AIP ENR 1.6.3<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Taiwan<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is mandatory for all aircraft operating within the Taipei FIR, at or above FL290. For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/eaip.caa.gov.tw\/eaip\/disclaimer.faces\">ENR 1.8.13<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Thailand<\/h2>\r\n<p>All flights within Thailand\u2019s airspace require ADS-B.\u00a0 For more information, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ais.caat.or.th\/file\/post\/784\/VT_Circ_2024_AIC_07_en_GB.pdf\">AIC 07\/24<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>UAE<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>As per U.A.E. AIP GEN 1.5 and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcaa.gov.ae\/en\/epublication\/admin\/Publication%20History\/Civil%20Aviation%20Regulations%20(CARs)\/CAR%20PART%20IV%20-%20OPERATIONAL%20REGULATIONS\/CAR-OPS%201%20-%20COMMERCIAL%20AND%20PRIVATE%20AIR%20TRANSPORTATION-AEROPLANES%20-Issue%2004-rev01.pdf\">CAR Part IV Aircraft Operations, CAR OPS 1.867<\/a>\u00a0ADS-B is mandated in the Emirates FIR for all IFR aircraft.<\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>United States<\/h2>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is now required when operating overall 48 continuous states, within airspace at or above FL 100 (excluding airspace from 2,500 ft. AGL). At or below FL100 ADS-B will be required:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>While operating within class B or C airspace.<\/li>\r\n<li>While operating within 12NM of the coastline in the Gulf of Mexico, at or above 3,000 ft. MSL.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>Requirements for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are slightly different. The class E requirement does not apply to these areas. ADS-B will be required at or above FL180 and at or below FL100, you will need it when:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>While operating within class B or C airspace.<\/li>\r\n<li>While operating within 12NM of the coastline.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>For the Guam and Northern Mariana Islands (South of 1749N), the only requirements are at or above FL180 and while operating within 12NM of the coastline.<\/p>\r\n<p>Currently there are no ADS-B requirements for Navassa Island, American Samoa, Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Atoll, Northern Mariana Islands (North of 1749N), Palmyra Atoll and Wake Atoll.<\/p>\r\n<p>For more details, please read through these references:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/nextgen\/programs\/adsb\/\">FAA ADS-B<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/current\/title-14\/chapter-I\/subchapter-F\/part-91\/subpart-C\/section-91.225\">14 CFR 91.225<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/current\/title-14\/chapter-I\/subchapter-F\/part-91\/subpart-C\/section-91.227\">14 CFR 91.227<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/FR-2010-05-28\/pdf\/2010-12645.pdf\">FAA Final Rule<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/nextgen\/equipadsb\/research\/airspace\/\">Airspace<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"975\" height=\"649\" class=\"wp-image-30144\" src=\"http:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"ADS-B for 2019\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Picture1.png 975w, https:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Picture1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Picture1-768x511.png 768w, https:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Picture1-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/www.universalweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Picture1-400x266.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 975px) 100vw, 975px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ADS-B Exemption<\/h3>\r\n<h2>\r\n\r\n<\/h2>\r\n<p>ADS-B is required when operating over the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2020. However, aircraft without the necessary ADS-B capabilities can still operate in U.S. airspace with a single-use route deviation authorization obtained through the FAA\u2019s ADS-B Deviation Authorization Pre-Flight Tool (ADAPT).<\/p>\r\n<p>To accommodate requests for authorization to deviate from this rule, the web-based tool known as ADAPT was created. As stated in an FAA policy statement (84 Federal Register 12062 dated April 1, 2019), ADAPT is not intended to be used for regular or routine operations by non-equipped aircraft, and your use of ADAPT appears to be regular and\/or routine.).<\/p>\r\n<p>Suppose the FAA denies your requests due to regular and\/or routine use. In that case, a one-time authorization may be requested for actual ADS-B equipment installation or ferry of aircraft.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>ADAPT facts:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Applies to U.S. airspace route segments only<\/li>\r\n<li>Only valid for a single route<\/li>\r\n<li>Applications can be submitted 24 hrs. to 1 hr. in advance of departure<\/li>\r\n<li>Authorizations are only valid within a +2 hour window of approved ETD<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Universal is now supporting operators with turnkey FAA ADAPT ADS-B Exemption support. For more information on this service, contact our Global Regulatory Services Team.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<hr \/>\r\n<h2>Vietnam<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Currently, ADS-B is required for all flights at or above FL290 within the VVHM FIR whose MTOW is 5,700 kgs (12,566 lbs) or heavier. All flights operating along airways L625, L628, L642, M765.
