Luton Airport Night Slot Ban Summer 2021 – Stansted is best alternative
Update: For the latest UK COVID operating restrictions for passengers and crew, visit our blog article.
London’s Luton Airport announced a new Night Slot Ban is taking effect June 1, 2021, to September 30, 2021, between the hours of 2200Z to 0600Z. The announcement is surprising and makes the Luton less attractive for the influx of pent-up business aviation traffic anticipated to descend on London in summer 2021.
Luton night slot ban
London Luton Airport announced the night slot ban to go into effect from 1st June to 30th September between 2200z to 0600z. The night slot ban was made due to the current airline schedules, which forecast that the night movements will be at maximum capacity.
Exceptions to the night slot ban
The only exception to the night slot ban is for flights attending the EURO UEFA 2020 Championships, which have been given. Night flights for this event have been given permission. However, this still requires written confirmation in the handling request that the EURO Championship match is the reason for the trip. Our blog has more on operating to the EURO UEFA Championships in London.
Stansted is the recommended Luton alternative
London Stansted (EGSS) is a 24/7 airport of entry (AOE) with plenty of GA parking and complete support services approximately with a similar drive time to London.
Airport slots are required, and there are restrictions to consider for noisier aircraft. For example, a Global Express may depart 24/7, while a private Gulfstream 2 may not be able to operate after 2330 local due to noise considerations. Aircraft hush kitted to Stage 3 standards are permitted, based on submitted noise certificates. Still, while they may be able to arrive 24/7, departures may be restricted after 2330 local.
Universal Aviation’s award-winning Stansted location is available 24/7 to assist. For more information on this location, including a 360 view of the FBO, visit Universal Aviation London-Stansted online.
