Costa Rica is an amazing and beautiful country. Unfortunately, for business aviation operators, the lack of facilities dedicated to general aviation has always been a sore spot and cause of stress.

But not for much longer!!! White-glove service for private operations is on the way!

I am thrilled to announce that we have created a consortium of Universal Aviation Costa Rica and local partners to manage the country’s first ever general aviation terminal (GAT) at Juan Santamaría International Airport (MROC/SJO)!

With the new GAT, your time on the ground will be drastically reduced and your experience at the airport will be greatly enhanced.

The future GAT is part of the new domestic terminal at MROC, an infrastructure project which includes 15,260 square-feet and has a capacity to accommodate up to 600 passengers in peak time.

The days of having to clear Customs, Immigration, and Baggage Screening formalities inside the airline terminal in potentially long lines are almost over.   You’ll also no longer be separated from your baggage and have to search for it among the throngs of bags on the commercial carousels.

Remodeling of the GAT area of the terminal is scheduled to begin this July and is expected to be completed by September 2019.

The new GAT will be exclusively available to international private operations and is housed in a separate, dedicated area of the new domestic terminal. We plan to begin remodeling the GAT area of the terminal in July and it should be complete by September 2019.

Upon opening, you’ll be able to deplane and be shuttled by our Universal Aviation Costa Rica agents a short ride on the main road to the GAT where there will be a dedicated area to clear customs.

This is huge for Costa Rica!

But it’s not the only news. If I may brag just a little, I’m so proud of our Universal Aviation Costa Rica team for recently earning IS-BAH accreditation. This is a major mark of distinction in our industry and demonstrates our team’s commitment to providing you an experience on the ground with the highest levels of safety, systems, training and security.

The two Costa Rica locations join Singapore (WSSL) and London Stansted (EGSS) as the third and fourth Universal Aviation locations to become IS-BAH accredited.

We’ll be sharing progress of the GAT remodel over the next few months on our social media channels, so be sure to check them out. In the meantime, if there’s anything further we can do to help enhance your experience in Costa Rica, please let me know.
