Press Release: Universal Releases Ops Brief for iPad; Now Available in App Store

NBAA, Las Vegas (Oct. 10, 2011) – Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. announced today that it has released a free new iPad® application called Universal® Ops Brief, available for download from the App Storesm for iPad®. The application allows for the notification, viewing, navigation, downloading and management of both domestic and international operational briefing packages (ops briefs) from Universal® Trip Support Services. Demos of the app will be available at NBAA at Universal® exhibit C-8926.

"Ops briefs in our industry are traditionally delivered as fax or email PDF attachments, and both delivery methods have their drawbacks," said Randy Stephens, Division Vice President, Product Management and Specialty Services. "With so many of our clients now using iPads in their daily workflows, we saw a huge opportunity to enhance the way they receive and interact with these ops briefs. For instance, the app makes navigating through a typically 30-50 printed page ops brief simple. Rather than scrolling (or flipping) through pages of content, users can now easily navigate to the content parts they need via a menu."

In addition to enhancing how a user navigates through an ops brief, the app allows users to:

  • Receive a notification whenever a new ops brief is available from their Universal® Trip Support Services team (when connected to the Internet)
  • Download an ops brief locally to the user's iPad® to access later when an Internet connection is not available

Information delivered through the application includes:

  • Aviation weather (text and full-color charts and graphics, taking advantage of iPad's pinch-to-zoom multi-touch functionality to focus in on weather features)
  • Leg-by-leg flight plans
  • Fuel releases
  • Ground handling confirmations
  • Hotel confirmations
  • Transportation confirmations
  • APIS confirmations
  • Runway analysis/weight & balance reports
  • Flight and landing permit confirmations
  • Slot confirmations
  • TSA waivers
  • General Declaration forms
  • Security information
  • Passenger weather
