Press Release:
Universal Enhances its EU-ETS Services
NBAA, Las Vegas (Oct. 10, 2011) – Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. announced that it has enhanced the efficiency and navigability of its free aviation European Union Emissions Trading Scheme Resource Center (www.EU-ETS.aero).
"As operators prepare to create and submit their reports for the second year of carbon monitoring and reporting for EU-ETS for aviation activities, we have enhanced our EU-ETS Resource Center with additional tools and resources based on lessons learned," said Adam Hartley, Supervisor, Global Regulatory Services, Universal®. "To make compliance simpler, we've developed an EU-ETS 'Roadmap to Success' on the site that will guide users through each step as they prepare for reporting and verification."
The new layout of Universal's EU-ETS Resource Center compiles EU-ETS resource information in one central location, making it easier for users to understand and complete the steps necessary to submitting a monitoring plan. The EU-ETS Resource Center includes tools, how-to videos, sample reporting plans, completed reports and more. Enhancements are also in development for Universal's subscription-based EU-ETS Reporting Portal service, which will include more automation to reduce user error.
"Over the past year working with the verifiers, we've gained a greater understanding of the type of information that is required and are making some adjustments to our portal that will reduce the back-and-forth when operators submit their reports for verification," said Hartley. "We are adding even more automation of required fields, making the portal more user-friendly, further reducing the chance for user-error on data entry. This will help ensure users' reports are more accurate, ultimately simplifying and shortening the verification process."
Although there has been much talk about the United States government potentially crafting legislation that would eliminate the need for U.S. operators to comply with EU-ETS, Hartley stressed that operators should not be distracted by speculation.
"It's very important for operators to separate the talk from the facts regarding compliance with EU-ETS," said Hartley. "Until the U.S. enacts legislation that would supersede EU-ETS, operators must continue to comply with the regulation and submit a verified annual emissions report by the March 31, 2012 deadline."
